National Rums of Jamaica granted temporary court victory

National Rums of Jamaica has won a temporary court victory.

The company, which ages a portion of its rums overseas for logistic and market reasons, was recently granted interim relief by Justice Cresencia Brown Beckford in the commercial division of the Supreme Court.

The court blocked a move by members of the local rum industry to define 'Jamaican rum' as only rum aged in Jamaica.

The September 19 ruling overruled an earlier decision by the Registrar of Industrial Property last October, a decision that would have negatively affected the company's operations.
