The Guyana government is considering a repayment proposal from Panama regarding the outstanding payment of more than $1 billion for rice.
Attorney General Anil Nandlall says if the Irfaan Ali administration accepts the proposal from the government of Panama, it may forego the interest accrued over the years.
Last year, Guyana said it was owed more than a billion dollars for rice supplied on credit to authorities in Panama by the former government in 2018.
