RJRGLEANER Group expects to reach more than half the population with NextGen TV network by mid-year

The RJRGLEANER Communications Group has projected that it will reach more than half of the population with the new NextGen TV network by mid-year.

In a release, Dr Claire Grant, Deputy CEO of the Group, said, with the installation of seven new transmitter sites around the island, the signal should be reaching 66 per cent of the national audience at that time.

The company says new transmitters are due for delivery to Jamaica and commissioning into service by the end of the second quarter.

Dr. Grant says the group has also been gathering feedback from testing taking place around the island, on experiences with the signal in a variety of conditions.

This is part of the company's pilot of the system and set top boxes (STBs).

The company is now looking at the availability of STBs at a cost-effective rate for consumer take up.

In January 2022, Television Jamaica, a member of the RJRGleaner Communications Group, became the first channel to meet the government mandated DSO.

This positioned Jamaica as the third country in the world, behind the USA and South Korea, to implement the ATSC 3.0 standard.
