Spur Tree Spices CEO Albert Bailey says the company has enough inventory of scotch bonnet peppers, escallion and thyme to last for at least three to four months.
He also pointed out that this gives the company enough time to assess the full extent of the damage caused by the hurricane and to replant in order to mitigate the impact on the company's business in the short term.
Before Hurricane Melissa, the company was getting 70% of its supplies from its 240-acre farm in Bernard Lodge and another 30% from members of the farming community.
Bailey stressed that this was in line with the company's policy to ensure that it has at least six months' inventory at any given point in time.
