TAJ reports increase in online filing of tax returns

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reporting that more individuals and companies are submitting their tax returns online using the Revenue Administration Information System (RAiS).

It says the trend is encouraging as it bolstered its online offerings with the introduction of  the RAiS which offers taxpayers an expanded suite of online service options.

Data for the 2016/2017 financial year shows an increase of  25 per cent  in General Consumption Tax (GCT) filings online while it was 54 per cent for Company Income Tax and 40 per cent for Individual Income Tax.

There was a 25 per cent increase in Guest Accommodation Room Tax returns filed online and 48 per cent for Special Consumption Tax.

TAJ says this may be attributed to several factors including the full implementation of  the RAIS and awareness campaigns.
