Ivan Anderson, CEO of TransJamaican Highway
TransJamaican Highway says its revenues jumped from $65 million in 2022 to $83 million last year when 28.6 million vehicles used the toll roadways in its portfolio.
CEO of the company Ivan Anderson says 61% of transactions conducted during 2022 were cash, but he says the aim is for 80% of transactions to be cashless by 2028.
Mr. Anderson says by the end of this year, motorists can expect greater efficiency with payments using their debit or credit cards.
"Right now when you drive up to the toll plaza, you give the toll collector your credit card or you tap your credit card. When it comes back, you get the authorisation and she then opens the gate and you drive through, but we're goint to be transforming all of that. So come the end the year, you drive up to the toll plaza, she just shows the machine, the toll software communicates with the point of sale machine, sends the information to it, you tap it, authorisation comes back, automatically opens the toll barrier. No intervention from the toll collector. Just tap and go," he explained.
