US Federal Reserve cuts interest rates by a quarter point

Jerome Powell, speaking with a reporter on Thursday
The Federal Reserve Board - the American central bank - on Thursday  reduced its benchmark rate by another 25 basis points to between 4.5 per cent and 4.75 per cent per annum.

This paves the way for other central banks, such as the Bank of Jamaica, to reduce their rates too, in order to drive investments and growth.

Chairman of the Federal Reserve Jerome Powell told journalists he will remain in his position despite Donald Trump winning Tuesday presidential election in the US.
