The reputed leader of a criminal gang based in Craig Town in the Kingston Western Police Division, was fatally shot during a police operation on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Rasheed Lyons, otherwise called 'Guess', of John Street, Craig Town.

The Kingston Western Police say they were conducting an operation along John Street when Lyons was fatally shot and a firearm seized.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps, head of the Area 4 Police, told Radio Jamaica News that Lyons was the leader of the 110 Gang.

"This gang leader was killed in a confrontation with the Kingston Western Police, who seized from him a prohibited 9 millimeter pistol along with seven rounds of ammunition. Lyons, I must say, was recently charged for shooting with intent in the Portland Division and was out on bail for that charge. He was being investigated for other serious crimes, especially within the Kingston Western, Kingston Central and St. Andrew South Divisions," he shared.

ACP Phipps urged "persons who are subjects of our police operations to peacefully...surrender at all times".
