Antigua and Barbuda is moving to have all police officers armed as part of a wider response to an increase in gun-related crime across the country.
The government says the proposed measure is intended to help police combat the current escalation in crime, particularly gun violence.
With a rise in gun related crimes, the Cabinet stated that there needs to be a coordinated response from law enforcement and the justice system.
Cabinet also reiterated its call for a "frontal attack" on crime, directing law enforcement agencies to aggressively use available resources to identify, apprehend and prosecute people involved in criminal activity.
