Sections of August Town in St. Andrew are tense this afternoon following Wednesday morning's fatal shooting of a reputed gang leader by the police.
Marvin Markland, otherwise called 'Papa', the reputed leader of the Gola Gang, was fatally shot sometime after 11 o'clock, during a reported confrontation between the police and armed men.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that members of a police team went into the community when they were attacked by a group of men.
During the reported exchange of gunfire, Markland was shot.
He was later pronounced dead at hospital.
Investigators told Radio Jamaica News that the Gola Gang was under investigation for several murders and shootings in August Town.
