Liberal party leader Peter Dutton lost the seat he held for the last 24 years.

Australia's opposition party has been left reeling after a bruising defeat in Saturday's federal election with a result that is shaping up to be the worst ever loss.

The Liberal party leader Peter Dutton also lost his own seat of Dixon, which he had held for the last 24 years.

Labour's landslide victory means Liberal Party is now scrambling to find a new leader and figure out what went wrong for them this election cycle.
