Barbados: PM announces 25 by 2025 initiative to cut food import bill

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley has announced a plan to cut the country's food import bill by 25 per cent by 2025.

Prime Minister Mottley says the cut will be gradual.

The Barbadian Prime Minister says it would take time to bring regional agricultural production up to scale, noting that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant effect on the efforts by CARICOM leaders

The Prime Minister says the 25 by 2025 Initiative would see a price dip in regionally produced fruit and vegetables and then in regionally produced agro-products and meats.
