Brisk voting is on in the Cornwall Mountain Division of
the Westmoreland Parish Council where electors are voting in a by-election.
High ranking officials of both the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People's National Party (PNP) are in the division, but an early morning squabble was quickly doused.
Voting was progressing steadily at the 32 polling divisions in the Cornwall Mountain Parish Council Division of Westmoreland.
The fight for the seat which was left vacant after the death of PNP councilor Michael Smith in May is between Keith Barnes of the Jamaica Labour Party and the PNP's Bernard Vanreil.
Checks with most of the polling stations show that voting has been progressing steadily with sometimes long queues at some of the polling stations.
The only problem encountered on Tuesday morning was at the Haddick Primary and Infant School where camps were set up at the entrances. The JLP James Robertson and the PNP Basil Waite had a verbal clash over the setting up of the camps.
However, with the quick intervention of the police the matter was diffused after the police threatened to use tow trucks to remove the vehicle.
The JLP's Horace Chang says the PNP has everything to lose in this division.
Further infield it was noticed that campaigning was still in progress with officers from both parties still trying to woo voters to cast ballots for their party.
