Bustamante High to get perimeter fence, other assistance

A year after students at Bustamante High in Clarendon were chased by animals on the school grounds and staff and students threatened by trespassers in separate incidents, the school will be receiving some much needed attention.

 

Member of Parliament for South East Clarendon Pearnel Charles Jr., has promised to address the school's perimeter fencing among other issues.

 

Last September the school lost two classrooms, 70 laptops, 49 desktop computers and other items to a fire.

 

Mr. Charles said he has since appointed former Custos of Clarendon William Shagoury as Board Chairman to improve the institution. 

 

"Right now we have just announced that we're going to have a greenhouse here at the school. We will have the wall built here at the school. Our Prime Minister actually put together a committee that came here, I think it's last year or the year before, and focused their attention on helping to develop Bustamante [High]. So a lot of work has been done in recent time to make sure that the high school that has the name of our national hero also reflects the excellence that he in his life was representing and reflecting," said the MP. 

 

Mr. Charles was speaking at the institution on Monday following a celebration to mark the 141st birthday of national hero, Sir Alexander Bustamante.
