St. Mary vendors Kadeen Brown and 'Ray'

Vendors in St. Mary are lamenting the slow pace of sales this Christmas season.

Several vendors say a number of factors have contributed to the slow sales, including the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

Vendor Kadeen Brown says she is hopeful despite not seeing her usual foot traffic in the parish capital, Port Maria.

"Well, it very slow, but it can go on. For this Christmas, it's very sticky for us on the road, but wi haffi gwaan wid it for it's just for children. In the meantime, a vendor who identified himself as 'Ray' said some people are being cautious with their spending.

"It kinda slow, I reckon because the weather. It kinda slow so far. I don't know if it's because a di storm as well, but most people kinda hold back. So wi just a gwaan watch it and see if it aguh pick up," he said.
