CMU suspends employee over suspected internal breach; matter referred to FID

The Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) says it has identified a suspected internal breach involving one of its employees following strengthened internal monitoring processes.

The CMU says it has referred the matter to the Financial Investigations Division (FID).

The university says the employee has been suspended pending the outcome of this process.

CMU says at this stage, no conclusive findings have been made, and any action taken will be guided by the results of the investigation and in accordance with applicable laws and policies.

But in keeping with established governance procedures, it says the matter has been referred to the FID for a thorough and independent investigation.

The leadership of CMU says the suspected breach was identified through its own vigilance and strengthened internal monitoring processes.

It says in the last three years, it has implemented robust internal controls designed to quickly alert the leadership to any action that is misaligned to the university's policies and the laws of Jamaica.

The university says the suspected irregularity has not disrupted any of its operations and it continues to serve its stakeholders without interruption.
