COVID cluster identified at Bellevue Hospital

A cluster of cases of COVID-19 has been discovered on a ward at the Bellevue Hospital on Windward Road in Kingston.

In a news release Tuesday morning, the Ministry of Health said it is working to contain the spread.

On the weekend, 21 of 29 patients and two of 23 staff members had returned positive results for COVID-19.

The health ministry says infection prevention and control measures are now in place at the Bellevue Hospital.

Staff members are also being trained in infection prevention and control, including cleaning and sanitisation.

The wearing of masks is mandatory while the ward where the cases are now confined will not accept new admissions.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie has reiterated that as the holidays draw nearer, the country is seeing an increase in COVID-19 numbers.

Dr. Bisasor McKenzie has urged vigilance in infection prevention and control measures.
