Crime crippling businesses in Spanish Town

RJR News has been informed that several business operators in Spanish Town, St. Catherine have closed their doors in recent weeks due to the persistent crime problem as well as the harsh economic environment.

This was confirmed by Dennis Robotham, head of the St. Catherine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr. Robotham told RJR News  that he hopes improved security in the old capital will stop merchants making their exit.

“We have some businesses that have been around for the last 50 to 60 years that are slowly closing their doors. This is something to be concerned about - entrepreneurs from the early days have seen fit to begin closing one by one,” said Mr. Robotham

He added that if the government created more employment opportunities in Spanish Town it would help to stem the tide of business closures in the area.
