Curfew imposed in Norwood, St. James following double killing

Senior Superintendent Erin Samuels, Commanding Officer for the St. James Police

A curfew will take effect Tuesday evening in Norwood, St. James following a double killing in the community on Tuesday morning.

The security measure will take effect at 6 p.m.

The killing has shattered the two-year record period without a murder or shooting in the Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) there.

It is reported that residents of Hollywood heard explosions and called the police. The bodies of two men were found in a yard.

The investigators have cordoned off the area.

Senior Superintendent Erin Samuels, Commanding Officer for the St. James Police, said the police are still working to ascertain the details of the incident.

"It is disappointing to know that after a period of no incidents within the zone, that we have an incident, much more a double murder within this space. We are not disheartened though. We don't expect to have additional incidents because we will be increasing and doubling up our efforts within the space. The team, they are committed and we'll continue to use the strategies that we have been using before. What we are very interested in now is ensuring that we solve this incident and to ensure that we don't have a recurrence, especially in this space," he noted.

Norwood did not record any murder or shooting in 2024 and 2025.

In an interview with Radio Jamaica News last month, Deputy Superintendent of Police Keeble Simms, who is in charge of the ZOSOs in the parish, expressed hope that the security forces would replicate the Norwood achievement in Mount Salem where one murder was committed last year.
