Debates Commission signs MOU with political parties

The People’s National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of  Understanding (MOU) with the Jamaica Debates Commission reflecting an agreement in principle for the staging of  three political debates.

In a statement, the Jamaica Debates Commission (JDC) said the events will be staged between Nomination Day and Election Day.

The agreement was signed at the Jamaica Chamber of  Commerce.

JLP Deputy General Secretary Audley Gordon and PNP Deputy General Secretary, Raymond Pryce signed on behalf  of  their  parties.

The first debate will comprise Social Issues; the other economic issues; and the final debate will be between the party leaders.

The Commission says there would be further negotiations on a number of  areas including structure, format, production guidelines and debate duration.

The debates will be staged in the studios of  the Creative Production and Training Centre and broadcast or distributed live via television, radio and the internet.
