Dr Garfield James looks set to represent the Jamaica Labour Party in the Westmoreland Western constituency during the next general election.
Dr James, currently the Councillor for the Sheffield Division in the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation, defeated the incumbent MP Morland Wilson in Sunday's candidate runoff.
The Secretariat of the Jamaica Labour Party says it intends to refer Dr. James to its Selection Committee and Central Executive as the candidate for Westmoreland Western.
JLP General Secretary Dr. Horace Chang, confirming the result late on Monday, said he was confident that unity will prevail among party members in the constituency.
Dr Chang said he remained confident in the candidate selection processes being deployed by the JLP, which presents an opportunity for party workers and delegates to make their voices heard.
He said the processes involve a constituency audit, polling, consultation with workers and delegates, and a selection exercise.
That approach, he said, confirms that democracy is alive and well in the JLP.
