Eight Haitians apprehended by police in Ewarton

Eight Haitian nationals were apprehended at a property in Ewarton, St Catherine on Saturday during an operation conducted by the St Catherine North Police.
 
Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, Commanding Officer for the St Catherine North Police, confirmed that four males and four females.
 
"Preliminary information is that they were allowed to land in Jamaica but should have departed the island a few days after landing," he told Radio Jamaica News.
 
The St. Catherine North Criminal Investigations Branch and the Passport, Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA) are engaged in the investigation, he added.
 
The detained Haitians were taken for medical examination before being placed in custody.
 
Another set of Haitians, numbering 23, were taken into custody following an incident at a property in Harbour View, Kingston 17 last Thursday.
 
They are schduled to be deported.
