Eight people being prosecuted for arms, ammo trafficking through the ports

Eight people are now before the court for offences under the Firearms Act after the authorities disrupted the illicit trafficking of rirearms and ammunition through the ports over the last three and a half months.
 
The individuals have been charged with offences ranging from Trafficking in Prohibited Weapon to Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
 
They were among seventeen people arrested during joint operations carried out from July 1 to October 12 by the Firearms & Narcotics Investigation Division and Jamaica Customs Agency.
 
The authorities seized 22 firearms, consisting of two rifles and twenty pistols and 1,274 assorted rounds of ammunition
 
The Firearms & Narcotics Investigation Division said the recent seizures and arrests demonstrate its resolve to remain focused and resolute in its approach to detecting, deterring, disrupting, and ultimately dismantling criminal networks involved in smuggling firearms into Jamaica.
