Elaine Thompson Herah wins Olympic 200m

Elaine Thompson Herah easily won the women's 200 metre final in a Jamaican national record time of 21.53s at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday.

In doing so she became the first woman to repeat the sprint double at two consecutive Olympics, winning gold in the 100m and 200m in Rio in 2016 and now at the Tokyo Olympics.

Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Jamaica's other athlete in the race, finished fourth.

Christine Mboma of Namibia finished second for silver and America's Gabby Thomas took bronze in third place.

"That is amazing, to be in the history books," Thompson Herah said in reference achieving the "double-double" in the Olympics.

Speaking to Radio Jamaica's Spencer Darlington after the race, she said Tuesday's achievement was one of the goals she had set herself and had been confident in her prospects for success.
