The government has set
aside $675 million in the 2010/2011 Estimates of Expenditure to expand the
Education Transformation programme.
The project provides support for the Education Ministry's policy of expanding the age limit for compulsory education from 16 to 18.
This will be done by providing about 2,100 additional secondary school spaces, starting up new agencies that are key to improving the capacity for delivering high quality education and garnering stakeholder support for the Education Transformation Programme.
The targets anticipated for 2010 to 2011 include procuring software and hardware to facilitate the Education Management Information System, conducting at least 150 school inspections, completing teacher registration, finalising standards for a licensing regime and undertaking pilots projects in Regions one and two.
