The family of businessman Jason Neil says it will no longer be pursuing legal action following the outcome of the coroner's inquest into the cause of his death seven years ago.

The relatives say they feel vindicated by the coroner's inquest, where a seven-member jury could not prove that Jason Neil had shot and killed himself.

Neil's death, which occurred on December 4, 2018, had been initially ruled a suicide after the 33-year-old was found with a gunshot wound to the head at his home in Ingleside, Manchester.

Now, the family says it has received closure and relatives can move forward more easily with their lives.

His father, Bunny, says the matter can now be put to rest.

"For the past seven years, it has been so rough, rough on the family, you know. The memories and everything and what we face in the justice system, it wasn't easy. We went through the court for four years and we proved to the world and to Jamaica that Jason Neil did not kill himself. Based on forensic report, no gunshot residue was found on his hands. We have now decided to put him to rest in peace. I'm so glad we reached a level that we can do this now," said the father.

He was speaking with Radio Jamaica News at the family home in Dunder Hill, St. Elizabeth.
