Well known media practitioner Ian Anthony Boyne was laid to rest today following a thanksgiving service at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
The ceremony was punctuated with musical tributes, fond recollections, mournful moments, mixed with colourful humour.
There were tributes from the political leaders including Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
“Ian is the only public servant that we know could criticize the Government and get away with it,” the Prime Minister said.
Opposition leader Dr. Peter Phillips lauded Boyne’s commitment to Christian values.
“He was born to neither privilage nor wealth and made his way by hard work and a committment to Christian values.
His daughter, Kelly-Ann remembered him as the ultimate family man, while his wife Marguerite gave an incite into how he was at home.
Media tributes
RJR/Gleaner Communications Group CEO, Gary Allen, announced that the group will be lobbying to have Boyne's 30 year television show, Profile, recognised as the longest running programme of its kind internationally.
There was an emotional tribute from the Jamaica Information Service, where Boyne was Deputy CEO.
“He was always by my side. Ours was an enviable working relationship, characterised by grace and wit,” said Chief Executive Officer, Donna Marie Rowe.
Future of Profile and Religious Hardtalk
Meanwhile, Mr. Allen has shed light on the future of two programmes which were hostedon Television Jamaica by Boyne - Religious Hard Talk and Profile.
Since his death there has been significant public interest in the status of the programmes.
“Certainly the programmes are not going to die. They will continue ….I don’t have the date, but based on what I’ve been advised, an announcement could be made certainly by the end of this month. I don’t think we will see reruns of the programme beyound January; I think we will have a new host for Profile. Religious Hardtalk is done in seasons, so by the time the next season is due, there will be a new host for that as well,” Allen said.
Ian Anthony Boyne was born on March 13, 1957 and died on December 18, 2017 at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack.
