Finance Minister Fayval Williams plans to meet with the leadership of the Jamaica Police Federation on Tuesday, August 12.
She gave that commitment in a letter to the Police Federation, which was posted to her social media accounts on Friday.
It followed a report Thursday that rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force were restive over the slow pace of negotiations for the 2025-2027 contract period.
The Federation said it had written to the ministry in June, requesting a meeting with the Finance Minister by July 9, but was informed that the minister was overseas and would meet with the union on her return.
But, Chairman of the Federation, Sergeant Arlene McBean had said the members regarded the month-long silence as being treated with disdain by the Ministry.
In her response Friday, Minister Williams said the work of the JCF is critical and its members were regarded with utmost respect.
On Saturday morning, Sergeant McBean told Radio Jamaica Newa that the Federation was anticipating fruitful discussions, adding that the Minister's move to make the letter public was a positive step.
