Jamaicans are being told to brace for more rainfall over the next few days due to a Tropical Wave west of the country.
The Meteorological Service says the Tropical Wave is interacting with an area of Low Pressure across the south-western Caribbean and is expected to result in unstable weather across most parishes.
Duty Forecaster at the Met Service, Javed Hudson, says the unstable weather condition should continue until Friday morning.
Southern parishes will be mostly affected.
The Meteorological Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, and Manchester.
At the same time, a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland. A Flash Flood Watch has also been issued for Portland and St. Mary.
The alerts will remain in effect until 8 o'clock Friday morning.
The broad area of Low Pressure across the southwestern Caribbean continues to produce a large area of showers and thunderstorms across the region, including Jamaica.
The system is expected to slowly drift north-westward or westward over the next few days.
Satellite images and rainfall reports indicate that moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms have been affecting mainly south-eastern and south-central parishes since late Wednesday morning, and light to moderate showers occurring elsewhere.
The forecast is for periods of showers, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds to continue across southern and north-eastern parishes through to Friday morning.
Additionally, showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday afternoon for the rest of the island.
Fishers and other marine interests, especially inshore and offshore the south coast, should exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds.
