French PM Michel Barnier ousted in no-confidence vote

French Prime Minister Michel Barnier has lost a vote of no-confidence, with left and far right parties uniting in parliament to collapse his government.

French MPs voted overwhelmingly in support of the motion of no confidence against him after a debate on the issue in parliament - just three months after he was appointed by President Emmanuel Macron.

His leadership was called into question after he used special powers to push through his budget without a vote.

Barnier had made an impassioned speech before the vote, saying France's debt won't disappear if he is removed.

But Marine Le Pen, of the far-right National Rally and Éric Coquerel, of the radical left have accused him of failing to listen to their budget concerns.
