Frustration as road work causes traffic gridlock in St. Ann

 

The traffic gridlock that gripped parts of St. Ann on Wednesday is still generating concern, with the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce now responding to the disruption. 

 

The gridlock left motorists and public transport operators frustrated, with some reporting long delays and difficulties getting passengers to their destinations. 

 

One taxi operator who was caught in the traffic described to the experience as frustrating.

 

"It took me three hours, three hours from St. Ann's Bay to Ocho Rios because of this madness that is happening on the road. Road works. Road works supposed to be done at nights or on weekends. How can you have road works going on when children are going to school? Children, they are unable to go to school because of this road work," the taxi operator complained.

 

In a release Thursday, the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce said it is concerned about the impact of the traffic disruption on commuters, businesses and the movement of goods. 

 

The Chamber called for greater coordination among the relevant authorities to help prevent a repeat of Wednesday's gridlock. 

 

It said while traffic management measures are necessary, they must be properly coordinated to minimise the disruption to commuters and businesses.
