A man who was Hanover's most wanted criminal was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police in Forest district, Ramble on Thursday.
He is 33-year-old Remearo McCallum, otherwise called 'Macky', of Cold Spring district, Ramble.
Acting Superintendent Andrew Nish, Commanding Officer for the Hanover Division, said McCallum was wanted for murders and shootings committed in the parish.
He said the police went into the Forest district area shortly before 1 p.m. when they came upon Mr. McCallum and another man, known as Omar 'Indian' Cawbert, in a highly vegetated area.
According to acting Superintendent Nish, the two men "alighted from a small shed and opened gunfire at the police team".
"In fear [for] their lives, the officers responded according to training and returned gunfire at the men. When the shooting subsided, McCallum was found suffering from gunshot wounds, clutching a silver and black 9mm pistol. His accomplice managed to escape. INDECOM was informed and they are carrying out their investigations into this matter," he reported.
He said the police are "relentlessly pursuing" the suspect who escaped.
One 9mm pistol with a magazine containing one 9mm round was seized during the incident.
