While Kamala Harris supporters in Jamaica may not have been able to cast a vote in the US presidential election, the long-distance push from relatives and other residents in Brown's Town, St. Ann remained anchored, even in the final hours.
Ms. Harris, the Democratic candidate, challenges Republican Donald Trump in one of the most tightly contested presidential races in US history.
Ms. Harris, who is of Jamaican descent, is born to father Donald Harris - an economist and professor at Stanford University.
He is a native of Brown's Town, where several relatives also reside.
Despite wind gusts and heavy downpour raining on the community's planned victory parade, former councillor for the Brown's Town division, Delroy Redway, said residents are glued to their widescreens as they wait hear whether the presidential hopeful will sit in the oval office.
"Everybody is expecting good news. But there is a level of anxiety as to which way will the chip fall, you know, because it's on a knife's edge... They want to see Kamala Harris come through as the next president of the USA, but they are sitting on the edge of their chairs," he admitted.
Mr. Redwood said, whatever the outcome, he is willing to accept the results. Still, he would be "really saddened if the best candidate didn't win" as he expressed concern about "some of the utterances of the other candidate".
The former Deputy Mayor of St. Ann's Bay said the community will be in celebratory mode for a month, with motorcades across Brown's Town, if the results are favourable to Harris.
The first polls will close at 6 p.m. eastern standard time in much of Indiana and eastern Kentucky, and the last at midnight in Hawaii and Alaska.
