Twenty students with hearing impairment were recently certified for specialised agricultural work within their communities following their participation in a Climate Smart Agriculture Greenhouse Production training programme.
The course covered various topics, such as Introduction to Greenhouse Production, Crop Management and Nutrition along with Safe Use of Pesticides.
The intensive 10-week programme, which was held at the Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf, CCCD in Knockpatrick, Manchester, was organised by the Rural Agriculture Development Authority, in collaboration with the Jamaica Red Cross.
The students were presented with their certificates during a graduation ceremony at the CCCD last Friday.
The CCCD occupies 50 acres of arable land, much of which is used for cattle, pig and poultry rearing.
The lone greenhouse is used for sweet pepper, but the Centre also grows cabbage, lettuce, and pumpkin.
