Huge fire near Riverton City landfill

Firefighters are now battling a huge blaze near the Riverton City landfill off Spanish Town Road Lower St. Andrew.

The firefighters are being assisted by a helicopter from the Jamaica Defence Force.

The fire is currently contained among a  huge pile of what is believed to be used tyres.

Its unclear how the fire started; however, reports are that fire was observed sometime after midnight on a section near to the entrance of the landfill and  an alarm raised.

Motorists wishing to access Spanish Town road near Six Miles at the overpass  are being diverted by police personnel assigned to the St. Andrew South Police Division.
