Hurricane-hit Clarendon communities receive hygiene kits

By Kimone Witter

UNICEF says hundreds of residents in three communities in Clarendon have received hygiene kits as part of its efforts to assist those most affected by hurricane Beryl.

On Tuesday, 300 kits were distributed to residents of Rocky Point, Portland Cottage and Lionel Town in collaboration with Food for the Poor.

UNICEF says the kits, packaged in buckets, contained items such as laundry detergent, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bath soaps, rags, sanitary napkins, mosquito repellent and liquid anti-bacterial handwash.

The agency says, in all, 3,600 kits will be distributed to the most affected communities and some 11,000 children will be supported through water points, child friendly spaces among other initiatives.

The initiatives include monetary support for families with children under five years old, pregnant and lactating women and people with disabilities.
