INDECOM probing fatal shooting during security operation in St. Catherine

 
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the fatal shooting of a suspect during a police-military operation in Ackee Village, St. Catherine on Friday morning.
 
He is 28-year-old Joseph Dixon, otherwise called 'Boysie', of Ackee Village in Damhead.
 
Reports are that about 6:15 a.m., team of police and soldiers conducted an intelligence-driven operation in the Ackee Village area.
 
The team, which was armed with a search warrant, entered a property where Dixon was seen.
 
According to the police, Dixon was observed with a handgun, which he reportedly pointed at the lawman.
 
The team took evasive action and fired in his direction, hitting him.
 
A search of the scene revealed Dixon lying beside a firearm.
 
The weapon, a Smith and Wesson pistol, fitted with a magazine containing seven rounds of .40 calibre ammunition was seized.
 
Dixon was pronounced dead at hospital.
