The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing several fatal shootings by the security forces on Thursday morning.
Corel Wint, otherwise called Damion, a 44-year-old electrician of Ashoka Road, Kingston 11, was shot dead during a reported confrontation between armed men and members of the St. Andrew South Police Division.
It's reported that shortly after midnight, a police team was conducting an operation along White Lane after gunfire was heard coming from the area.
On entering the community, the police team saw a group of persons. The cops say the crowd started to disperse when they saw the police. The lawmen also reportedly heard gunshots coming from the crowd. This led to an exchange of gunfire.
Following the shooting, Mr. Wint was found with bullet wounds.
He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police say they seized an illegal gun at the scene.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man was fatally shot during a police operation along Manning's Hill Road, St. Andrew on Thursday morning.
He has been identified as Shamar Turner.
Mr. Turner was shot at a location called Big Yard.
Residents protested the shooting and denied claims by the police that Turner was killed in a confrontation.
INDECOM is also probing the fatal shooting of three people, including a five-year-old boy, during a police-military operation in Granville, St. James on Thursday morning.
