The first sitting of the Trelawny Parish Council could develop into an interesting one.
This after recently-expelled Jamaica Labour Party member and Independent candidate, Paul Patmore, defeated the odds Monday, to secure the Lorimers Division in the Trelawny Parish Council.
All eyes are now on Mr. Patmore and his next move politically, following Monday's victory in the local government election, which resulted in an eight seat tie for both major parties in the new Council. Mr. Patmore says he will be seeking a meeting with voters to decide his political future.
But already he says he has no plans to join any of the two main parties. Mr. Patmore says he has received congratulatory calls from both sides of the political divide, however there has been no meaningful political discussion. The Independent candidate-elect describes the bitter sweet moment.
Independent Councillor Elect for the Lorimers Division Paul Patmore. The preliminary count showed Mr. Patmore polling 1-thousand 526 votes to the JLP's Steve Warren who polled 908 votes. The PNP's contender Kevin Guy secured 3-hundred and 56 votes. Another significant victory yesterday was that of Independent candidate, former Lucea Mayor Lester Crooks,
Mr. Crooks won the Riverside Division in Hanover polling 1-thousand 216 votes to the JLP's Albert Lee 770 votes. No candidate contested on behalf of the PNP.
