Inmates riot in attempted escape from "Hundred Man" Station

SSP Christopher Phillips
There was a riot at the Portmore Police Station in St Catherine — more popularly known as 'Hundred Man' — early Wednesday morning as several prisoners reportedly tried to escape.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, Commanding officer for the St Catherine South police division, told Radio Jamaica News that some of the prisoners broke free from their cells before the attempted jailbreak was foiled.

He said the team that was on patrol at the lock-up "heard suspicios movements and discussions taking place within the cells, and (when) they went to check they were attacked by prisoners who managed to cut themselves out of eight cells."

"The team had to apply lethal means to get them under control," he confirmed, without elaboration.
