JCTU receives government's revised wage offer

JCTU President St. Patrice Ennis

The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) has received the government's written revised wage offer of 2% in year one of the 2025-2027 contract period.

The offer of 2.5% in each of the remaining two years of the contract is unchanged.

JCTU President St. Patrice Ennis said the union was advised of the new offer last week.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News on Tuesday, he said it is a step in the right direction.

"In terms of moving from zero, that was one of our demands, and now we believe that they set the stage and the grounds for proper negotiations. And so we await, I suspect after the elections most definitely, for the reconvening of these negotiations. We do not have a date as yet, as you know, our employers are very busy at this time."

Mr. Ennis added that the revised offer suggests that the government has acceded that the 7.5?justment in public sector salaries for the 2025-2026 fiscal year was not an increase, but a deferred entitlement.

"We are glad the ministry seemingly has accepted that the 7.5% ought not to be treated as an offer for wages in the first year of our contract. So this move suggests that," he noted.
