JLP says Golding acted against law in touring Kingston Central on election day

JLP spokesperson Kamina Johnson Smith

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has served notice that it is investigating whether People's National Party (PNP) President Mark Golding breached the Representation of the People Act after he was observed seemingly touring the Kingston Central constituency on the day of the general election.

Speaking at a JLP media briefing on Thursday, party spokesperson Kamina Johnson Smith said there is video evidence to support the allegations.

She was speaking within the context of the JLP challenging the PNP on its allegations of voter suppression.

"What does, however, provide us with greater and more concrete concern is the issue of the Leader of the Opposition touring constituencies apart from his own on election day, and in being in the vicinity of polling stations outside of his constituency on election day. Videos and photographs of this activity have now come to hand, including his visit in the precincts of a polling station in Central Kingston in particular. We are of the view, the considered legal view, that the conduct of the Opposition Leader on general election day, September 3rd, 2025, is inconsistent with the provisions of the Representation of the People's Act, and we will say more on this at a later date," she told the media briefing.
