Prince Moore reports
Joseph Matalon has been named interim Executive Chairman of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group following the death of Chief Executive Officer Anthony Smith on Sunday.
In a statement, Mr. Matalon said the Board moved swiftly to ensure continuity of leadership, operations and governance during the transition period.
The Board has also approved senior executive appointments that had been previously contemplated by Mr. Smith.
Mrs. Beverley Thompson has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer, while Ms. Shawnie Fitt will take up the role of Chief Transformation Officer.
Mr. Matalon said he will work alongside Chief Financial Officer Karla Stephens Hall, who has been acting Chief Executive Officer during Mr. Smith’s recent absence, as well as Group Senior Executive and former CEO Gary Allen, whose institutional knowledge is expected to support the organisation through the transition.
He emphasised that the Group remains fully operational and focused on its responsibility to audiences, customers and communities, despite what he described as a "deeply difficult" moment for the organisation.
The RJRGLEANER Group again extended condolences to the family of Mr. Smith as colleagues across the organisation mourn his death.
