The Jamaica Public Service Company says it has restored electricity to all its customers, seven months after the passage of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa.
Speaking Tuesday on TVJ's Smile Jamaica, JPS Director of Corporate Communications Winsome Callum praised the efforts of the teams that worked tirelessly to restore power in the affected communities.
"Well, it has been a journey as, you know, but we are in a good place. We have restored all our customers. This is the most phenomenal restoration that we've had even though it was the biggest hit that we got from a Category 5. So but we put everything into restoring and learning from past experiences. So within a month after the Category 5 hurricane we had 80% of our customers back, and by month number four, 99% were back. And it was just the last mile, you know, the most difficult ones that took us beyond the four months, but everybody is back now," she disclosed.
Ms. Callum noted that there are a few customers still without electricity because their premises are not ready to receive power supply, but she stressed that "for our part, we're in every community".
