KSAC clampdown on unlicenced beauty salons

The Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) Monday morning carried out its threatened clampdown on unlicensed barber shops and hair salons on Constant Spring Road in St. Andrew.

KSAC officers led by Town Clerk Errol Greene along with the police and the fire department started the operation at the Princeville Plaza.

They went from shop to shop to find out it the owners were lencenced and regulated.

Five hair salons were found to be operating without a trade licence and were also in breach of public health regulations.

On the other hand, two shop operators were lauded by KSAC officials for displaying their licences in the view of the customers.

Customers who were found inside the shops visited were also warned about patronizing unregulated establishments.

Councillor for the Hughenden Division Audley Gordon who was representing KSAC Chairman Mayor Desmond McKenzie said Monday's activities were a culmination of several meetings that have yielded little results.

He said the aim was not to shut down business but to ensure compliance.
