The Kingston & St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has passed a resolution for the Bureau of Standards to test the National Water Commission's water quality.
There has been controversy surrounding the release of the findings of water quality tests after the NWC opted to cease sharing its water quality reports with the KSAMC. This after questions were raised about the level of fecal coliform in the water supplied by the Commission.
The resolution was passed on Tuesday during the KSAMC's monthly meeting, in light of prevailing concerns.
Water Minister Matthew Samuda's stated position is that the NWC is not legally required to provide water quality reports to municipal corporations.
Councillor for the Trafalgar Division Jessie James Clark claims the reports could have answered several questions in real time at the Public Health & Sanitation Committee if NWC had been in attendance.
Councillor for the Brandon Hill Division Crishena Richards, who seconded the resolution, likened the issue to a defective product being recalled and the public advised how to proceed.
She insisted that issues relating to water quality should be made public.
