The Hanover police have charged the man who was taken into custody on Monday in relation to the fatal stabbing of his spouse at a rented house in the community of Bull's Bay.
Thirty-six year old Aldeane Jermaine Blake, from Clarendon, has been charged with murder and breaches of the Immigration Act.
The police say Blake, the holder of a United States passport, has been in Jamaica since October 5 of last year and should have left the island on April 3.
The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Kadian Bradshaw, of Tampa, Florida and Bull's Bay in Hanover.
The police say their preliminary investigation indicates that the couple had been staying the Bull's Bay area for approximately one year at the time of the incident late Sunday night into Monday morning.
It's reported that the couple had an altercation at their home during which Bradshaw was stabbed.
It is believed that residents became concerned and called the police after Blake was seen, with their young child, walking along the main road towards Lucea about 2 a.m.
The swift actions of the police led to Blake being apprehended.
The baby was unharmed.
