A man was fatally shot by the police at his home in Pitter Lane in Knockpatrick, Manchester on Wednesday evening.
He has been identified as Moses Morgan, also called 'Osa', a labourer and vendor.
The shooting occurred about 6 p.m.
According to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the police team reported that they were on surveillance duties when Morgan, who they believed to be armed, aroused their suspicion.
It is alleged that during their pursuit of him, there was a tussle for a service weapon between Morgan and one of the police officers.
Morgan is alleged to have attempted to retrieve a gun from his waistband and the officer subsequently fired in response, fatally wounding him.
One Smith and Wesson revolver was reportedly recovered from Morgan.
INDECOM says the latest shooting incident increases the total to 140 people who have been fatally shot by the security forces so far this year.
Four of the incidents have occurred this month.
This represents an overall 137 per cent increase in total fatal shooting incidents when compared with the similar period last year during which 59 people were fatally shot by the security forces up to June 4.
