A resident of May Pen, Clarendon
A mentally ill man was fatally shot by police on Tuesday morning in May Pen, Clarendon.
It is reported that shortly after 11 o'clock, police are patrolling the town, near Stork and Bromanty streets, where they observed a machete-wielding man behaving violently.
It is further reported that the police team approached him and he attacked one of the officers.
He was then shot and wounded.
The man was pronounced dead at May Pen Hospital.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the matter.
Several residents told Radio Jamaica News that they observed the man in the town chasing passersby hours before the incident.
One resident said the man had frequently brandished the machete and made threats against several people.
