The House of Representatives is to consider two orders to increase the National Minimum Wage and the minimum wage for industrial security guards.
As announced by the prime minister in the Budget Debate, effective June 1, the minimum wage for both categories will move from $15,000 to $16,000 per 40 hour work-week.
Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Jr explained that the wage increase for industrial security guards applies solely to to the basic rate, "and as such, there will be no change at this time to the allowances or insurance benefits prescribed under the Industrial Security Guard Order; these benefits remain at the prevailing rates."
